Ride for Life – 2014!

Greetings in Messiah, Friends!

One evening about fifteen years ago, sitting at a Denny’s restaurant, I and my good friend Dave Smith, began to work through the possibility of a charity motorcycle ride to raise both friends and funds for the Care Net Pregnancy Center – a very worthy Christian ministry. Well, about a month from now, I will be participating in the 14th annual Care Net Jim Galbraith Memorial Ride For Life. Fourteen years!!!

Praise God for how far we’ve come – and some of you have supported this event for most or all of these years! This will be the third year that the Ride is being coordinated by the wonderful people at Grace Christian Church in Sterling Heights, MI. They have truly taken it to the next level, for which I’m grateful!

Let me cut to the chase. I am seeking both individual and corporate sponsors to back me for the Ride. All support will go directly to the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Berkley and Detroit.

I believe in goals. I’d like to see the Ride For Life this year raise at least $25,000, especially now that Care Net is opening a center in Detroit, where the ministry has been so needed. A building has been purchased, and renovations are shortly to begin. Eventually (sooner, I pray, rather than later) we want to fully equip it with ultrasound services. The difference it makes is dramatic when a young woman sees for the first time, via ultrasound, that precious baby moving inside her. She is much more likely to have a heart-change and choose life for her child.

To that end, I’ve set a personal goal of raising $10,000. It’s a lot, I know, but I’m not expecting it to come from just a handful of people. I’m asking God for no less than 100 and as many as 300 of my believing friends to respond and join with me in this endeavor.

For those not already familiar with Care Net, here is their mission statement: Care Net exists to represent Jesus Christ and to offer alternatives to abortion-vulnerable individuals. We provide medical, material and spiritual support, and we encourage Godly sexual attitudes and practices in our community. All of our services are free and confidential. We offer pregnancy tests, limited obstetrical ultrasound, material assistance, parenting education and options counseling. Our post-abortion ministry, Healing Hearts, assists women who are dealing with the hurt of a past abortion.

This year’s ride is taking place on Sunday, June 22nd.

I’m wondering if you would respond as soon as possible and let me know if you can make a pledge. Beyond the need for faithful and generous sponsors, I am also in need of door prizes (biker t-shirts, accessories, gas cards, gift certificates, etc.), and hopefully two Grand Prizes for top-sponsored riders (other than myself). In 2010 the grand prize was a flat screen TV. Other ideas might include a well-endowed gas card (i.e., $200), or a certificate for a night at a B&B in a Michigan resort, or some other big-ticket item.

If you and/or your company would be willing to sponsor me, please email me or call me back, and please include your address and the amount you would like to pledge. If you can help with some of the additional needs, please also feel free to call me. My cell number is (248) 885-7101.

If it’s easier, you may also sponsor online at: http://gracesterling.com/ride4life/

Please indicate that you’re sponsoring me, so I’ll be able to know if I met my goal.

Shalom, shalom!

Rabbi Glenn Harris
